It was built in about 1880 for W Mathews. The end of the balcony was usually glassed in against rain. When the oldest boy became to old to share a room with his siblings, it was turned into a small bedroom for him. Later the building became the “Rendezvous” boarding house. It was later converted to offices and is now a restaurant.

A closer look at the replica of the Dias Caravel in the harbour in 1988. During the Dias festival visitors could go aboard the caravel in the harbour. Today the caravel is o ne of the main attractions in the Maritime Museum in the Dias Museum Complex and for a fee visitors can still board the ship and see the inside. (See a photo here )

The Replica of the Dias Caravel was built in Portugal in 1987 and was sailed to South Africa in 1988 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Dias' voyage. During the Dias festival in 1988 the caravel was in the harbour and visitors could go aboard. Today the caravel is o ne of the main attractions in the Maritime Museum in the Dias Museum Complex.
