Dias Festival 2017 (3) - Flag jumps

The Dias festival annually flag jumps took place once again on 4 February. It took  experience and technique for  the skydiver, Henk van Wyk   to  put t he gaint South African flag, which weighs a massive 75kg,  safely on Santos Beach.   For more photo's see the Mossel Bay Advertiser

" The Portuguese explorer Bartholomeu Dias headed an expedition to sail around the southern tip of Africa in the hope of finding a trade route to India.  Dias and his fleet eventually entered what he named Aguada de São Brás (Bay of  Saint Blaise ) - later renamed  Mossel Bay  after the abundance of mussels in the bay - on 3 February 1488. His landing will again be celebrated this year with the 2017 Dias Festival from 2 February 2017 to 5 February 2017." From www.diasfees.co.za
