Church Tower

The tower of the St Peter's Anglican Church. The church was built in 1878 and the tower was added in 1906. The spire is believed to be the tallest built entirely of stone in South Africa.

Marsh Street

Mossel Bay Boating Co. Office

Built in 1901/1902 as offices by the Mossel Bay Boating Co who owned and ran the harbour. The clock tower was used to time how long it took to onload a ship.

40 Marsh Street

A dwelling built between 1875 and 1880 for Adriaan Horak. It was called "Windsor House"

It was built in about 1880 for W Mathews. The end of the balcony was usually glassed in against rain. When the oldest boy became to old to share a room with his siblings, it was turned into a small bedroom for him. Later the building became the “Rendezvous” boarding house. It was later converted to offices and is now a restaurant.

Santos Pavilion

One of only two Victorian beach pavilions still in use (the other being the Royal Pavilion in Brighton). Built in 1906 by a local contractor. The architect having visited England to study the original. It now houses the Santos Pavilion restaurant.

2nd Municipal Building

Built in 1879 by Weymouth & Pickard builders when the first building became to small. It is now an Arts and Craft Center.

Dias Caravel in 1988 (2)

A closer look at the replica of the Dias Caravel in the harbour in 1988.  During the Dias festival  visitors could go aboard the caravel in the harbour. Today the caravel is o ne of the main attractions in the Maritime Museum in the Dias Museum Complex and for a fee visitors can still board the ship and see the inside.  (See a photo here )

The Replica of the Dias Caravel was built in Portugal in 1987 and was sailed to South Africa in 1988 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Dias' voyage. During the Dias festival in 1988 the caravel was in the harbour and visitors could go aboard. Today the caravel is o ne of the main attractions in the Maritime Museum in the Dias Museum Complex. Built in 1905 by R Peda of Oudtshoorn.  The Town Clerk, Mr Harvey lived here in 1913. Now used by Kliphuis Cuisine for a Coffee Shop.
